How to add a Grok Bot from a share link
Open the link, read the preview, choose “Add to Grok Bot”, review it in the app. What you get, what you don't, and what to check first.

Short answer
Open the x.ai/bot/… link in a browser, read the preview, then choose “Add to Grok Bot”. The Grok Bot app opens the template so you can review its context and integrations before you confirm. You get your own independent copy, never the creator's computer, logins or chats. You need the Grok Bot app and a plan that includes it.
On this page
Most Grok Bots you'll find, on X, in newsletters or in our directory, arrive as a share link. Adding one takes a minute. Checking it first takes two more, and those two minutes matter, because a Bot works with your accounts.
What a share link is
A share link points to a published template: a shareable copy of someone's Bot setup. It looks like https://x.ai/bot/ followed by a 21-character id, for example x.ai/bot/Ub3T7usX-c6yRQibQq83P. Opening it shows a preview page on x.ai with the Bot's name, its creator and a description.
A link can be public or limited to one team. The docs say a team-only link opens only for members of that team.
Step by step
- Open the link in a browser. You land on the preview page on x.ai.
- Read the preview. What job does it do? Does the description say it sends, posts, pays or deletes anything? Good creators state what the Bot never does.
- Choose “Add to Grok Bot”. The button opens the template in the Grok Bot app. If you don't have the app, the page offers a Download link; the docs note “they need the Grok Bot app to finish adding it.”
- Review it in the app. The official templates guide describes this step: you see the context and integrations included with the Bot, check they're what you expect, then choose Add Bot.
- Finish its setup. Reconnect the apps it uses and add any keys it asks for (see below).
- Run one safe task while you watch before you turn on any routine.
You can also browse from inside the app: open Connect apps in the sidebar and choose Bot templates. The gallery opens on x.ai, where you open a template and choose Import Bot (docs). The official Marketplace groups public templates by category, such as Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Design and Personal.
What you get, and what you don't
The templates guide calls this “a recipe, not a clone”. Your copy starts from the creator's instructions, selected memories and skills, then becomes its own Bot. It also means some work is left to you:
- Plugins need installing on your account. The new Bot comes with them listed, but has to reinstall them.
- Custom pieces don't travel. Non-standard plugins such as MCP servers, scripts and custom code aren't included. If a Bot depends on them, the creator should have written setup instructions.
- Secrets never travel. API keys and logins are yours to add, through the secure secret card or Vault, never pasted into chat.
Check before you click “Add”
The official guide is direct about it: “Be very careful about what you're installing in your bot.” Here is the checklist we use when we review listings.
Also remember the shared computer: a new Bot works on the same cloud computer as your other Bots, with the same browser sessions and files.
If the link doesn't work
A 404 usually means the creator deleted the template or turned the link off. A team-only link won't open for people outside that team. Work through the share link fix for the full checklist.
Where to find bots worth adding
The official Marketplace is one source. Our directory lists public bots with their permission level, risk flags and the date we last confirmed the share link works, so a dead link is flagged before you click.
FAQ
Does adding a Bot from a share link give me the creator's accounts or chats?
No. Adding a shared template creates a copy on your account. You never get the creator's computer, logins or conversation history.
Why does “Add to Grok Bot” do nothing?
The button hands the template to the Grok Bot app, so the app has to be installed. The share page offers a Download link if you don't have it yet.
Do I need to reconnect apps after adding a Bot?
Usually yes. The copy comes with its plugins listed, but your new Bot has to install them on your account, and custom MCP servers, scripts and code are not included at all.
