Grok Bot share link not working

The x.ai/bot link shows a 404, won't open, or “Add to Grok Bot” does nothing. Seven checks, most of them on the link itself.

~4 minChecked against the official docs

StatusBefore anything: this is Grok Bot’s live state from our checker and the official status feed.Status page →
  1. A share link is https://x.ai/bot/ followed by a 21-character id of letters, digits, - and _, for example https://x.ai/bot/Ub3T7usX-c6yRQibQq83P. Links pasted from X or chat apps often lose their last characters or pick up a trailing word. Count the id, or paste the link into our directory search to see whether we know the bot.

  2. After publishing, a creator can choose Delete Template, which turns off the link. Nothing on your side brings it back.

  3. Templates can be published publicly or for a team. “A team-only link opens only for members of your team,” per the docs. If a colleague sent you a link from their company's workspace, ask them for a public link, or whether their admin allows public templates at all.

  4. 4. “Add to Grok Bot” does nothing: install the app

The button on the share page hands the template to the Grok Bot app; it doesn't add anything in the browser. The recipient “can choose Add to Grok Bot. They need the Grok Bot app to finish adding it.” If the app isn't installed, use the Download link on the share page, sign in, then open the link again.

Why it happens: On the share pages we checked, the button opens a grokbot:// app link. Browsers do nothing visible with that kind of link when no app is registered to handle it.
  5. 5. Check you're signed in to an account with Grok Bot

The app needs an account that includes Grok Bot: Premium, Super or Ultra on The X Subscription, a paid legacy Cursor plan, or a linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscription. Grok Bot signs in with your Cursor account, not the Grok app. If you have several accounts, make sure the app is on the right one; our plan guide covers access.

  6. 6. Rule out an x.ai problem

If no share link opens at all, check the Share links row on our status page. We load real share pages from our directory on every check.

  7. 7. It opened, but the Bot doesn't work

That's usually setup, not the link. A template copy has to reinstall its plugins on your account, and custom MCP servers, scripts and code aren't included. See what you get and what you don't in adding a bot from a share link.

Still failing after step 7?

If the link is listed on GrokBotsHub, report it and we'll re-check it and mark the listing. Otherwise ask the creator for a fresh link; only they can update or re-publish their template.
