Which Grok Bot plan do you actually need?

Which plans include Grok Bot, how the shared weekly usage pool works, and when Premium is enough.

Short answer

If you're new, Premium on The X Subscription is the cheapest plan that includes Grok Bot; Plus and Free don't. Grok Bot shares one weekly usage pool with Cursor and the Grok apps, so step up to Super or Ultra when routines run all week. Already on Cursor Pro, Pro+, Ultra or Teams, or on a SuperGrok plan? You may have access already.

Grok Bot doesn't have its own subscription. It comes with a plan you may already have, and how much you can do depends on a weekly usage pool rather than a number of messages. Here is how to work out what you need.

The plans that include Grok Bot

New customers sign up for The X Subscription, one plan covering Grok, Cursor and X. These are the list prices exactly as the xAI pricing docs print them today, before tax:

Plan Monthly Annual Included usage Grok Bot
Free $0 $0 Limited Not included
Plus $8/mo $80/yr Base Not included
Premium $30/mo $300/yr 4x Included
Super $100/mo $1000/yr 15x Included
Ultra $200/mo $2000/yr 50x Included

Prices change, so treat this table as a dated snapshot and check x.ai/pricing before you buy. Team seats cost the same per seat as the matching individual plan, each seat has its own weekly pool, and Plus isn't available for teams.

If you already pay for Cursor or SuperGrok

Switching to The X Subscription is optional; existing plans continue. According to Cursor's Grok Bot plans page, on legacy Cursor plans:

  • Cursor Pro includes Grok Bot with weekly usage, below Pro+.
  • Cursor Pro+ includes generous weekly usage, below Ultra.
  • Cursor Ultra includes the highest weekly usage.
  • Self-serve Cursor Teams: every member gets Grok Bot, with no extra seat or admin request.
  • Cursor Enterprise: an admin enables it through the account team.

You can also link an individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ subscription to a Cursor account. SuperGrok Lite and Grok Enterprise can't link. Two catches, both from the FAQ:

How usage is measured

Every paid seat gets a weekly pool that resets each week. On The X Subscription that pool is shared across Grok Bot, Cursor and the Grok apps, and “usage rates vary by product, so different activities can draw different amounts from the pool” (usage limits). The docs describe tiers relative to each other (4x, 15x, 50x); they don't publish the pool in hours or tasks, so nobody can honestly tell you “Premium is enough for N routines”.

What drives usage is the work itself. The trial description says it plainly: credit is drawn down “by how much work your agents do, measured by agent steps and tokens rather than the number of messages you send” (Cursor help).

Routines are the usual surprise. Each run spends usage, even a run that finds nothing new, and the docs warn that “an hourly schedule, a short interval, or a Slack trigger on a busy channel can use a week of usage in a day” (skills and routines).

What happens when you run out

  • The X Subscription: past the pool, usage is paid from prepaid credit. Auto Top-up only runs after you turn it on, and a monthly additional-usage limit can stop spending even when credit remains (extra usage).
  • Legacy Cursor plans: Grok Bot continues as on-demand usage only if on-demand is enabled, capped by the On-demand monthly limit. If it's off, Grok Bot stops until the weekly reset.

Either way, a cap is not a hard stop mid-run: a Bot that is already working can finish a little past it. If you just hit the wall, follow our usage-limit fix.

How to choose

Before upgrading, try cheaper fixes: pause routines you don't need, widen schedules, and narrow triggers. Those are the first steps the docs recommend too.

Where to check your usage

On The X Subscription, open Usage at grok.com/dashboard. On a legacy Cursor plan, open Settings → Usage & Billing in the Grok Bot app, or cursor.com/dashboard on the web (Grok Bot on The X Subscription). The full comparison, including routine and rule limits, is on our plans and limits page.

FAQ

Does the X Subscription Plus plan include Grok Bot?

No. Plus and Free don't include Grok Bot. Premium is the lowest plan on The X Subscription that does.

Is there a free trial of Grok Bot?

Some accounts see a Start Trial option. The trial is a usage credit with a 7-day window, it never turns into a paid plan, and used credit is not restored, so one big task can use all of it.

Do a Cursor plan and SuperGrok add up?

No. On a legacy Cursor account, Grok Bot uses whichever one grants more weekly usage. Both subscriptions keep billing on their own.
